My work is autobiographical. It is an exploration and documentation of the pressures placed on women. Drawing from my own experiences, I intend to create visual interpretations of cultural standards, expectations, and ideals of femininity; and to express the difficulties in balancing and rectifying these canons of behavior and appearance. These ideas manifest themselves in various forms and situations in my work. Some of my paintings depict women who are passively interacting or adorned with traditional and iconic feminine accouterments. Among these representations are quilts, tea cups, veils, and flowers. In all my work, I intend to criticize and satirize the female archetypes popularized in contemporary culture and media.
